Glenn Dora Lumpkin - Age 89

Glenn Dora Lumpkin was born on May 27, 1923 to Archie and Lola (Higgins) Stude in Oakland, Iowa. She graduated from Oakland High School. After graduation, Glenn Dora moved to San Diego, California to live with her aunt, Rosie, and this is where she met William Lumpkin. The two were married on September 28, 1945 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Three children were born to this union: Barbara, Charles, and Bruce.

After William was honorably discharged from the United States Navy, the couple settled in Hancock, Iowa. Glenn Dora worked as a waitress at the Hub in Hancock, other waitressing jobs, and at the Oakland Nursing Home. She also helped William run his corn shelling business. Her most recent job was working as an Avon representative for over 20 years.

Glenn Dora enjoyed taking care of her children and grandchildren. She loved playing cards and was involved in a card club in Lewis, Iowa. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Oakland V.F.W., and Silver Creek United Methodist Church in Hancock.

Glenn Dora moved to the Oakland Manor Nursing Home in Oakland in May of 2012, and this is where she died on Thursday, March 14, 2013 having attained the age of 89 years, 9 months, and 15 days. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William.

She is survived by a daughter, Barbara Lee Holland of Los Angeles, California; and sons, Charles William Lumpkin and his wife Marian of Hancock, Iowa, and Bruce Allan Lumpkin and his wife Sandy of Hancock, Iowa; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; other relatives, and friends.

Rev. Melissa Drake officiated the 10:30 am funeral service on Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at Silver Creek United Methodist Church in Hancock, Iowa. Burial was held in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Oakland, Iowa with Jim Martens, Dan Martens, Mike Monahan, Herb Handel, Leon Putnam, and Mike Pierson serving as casket bearers.
