Donna Jean Lippold - Age 79

Donna Jean Lippold, daughter of Bruce and Iola Marie (Martin) Warner, was born on May 15, 1931 in Harlan, Iowa. Donna Jean attended grade school in Yutan, Nebraska but later returned to Harlan where she graduated from high school.

Donna Jean was united in marriage to Loring Lippold on October 17, 1950 at the Lutheran Church in Avoca, Iowa. Five children were born to this union: Connie, Terry, Patty, Carol and Janette. They lived and farmed in the Shelby area until 1968 when they moved to a farm southwest of Avoca. Donna Jean enjoyed the farm. She not only put meals on the table, including the 10 o’clock and 3 o'clock lunches, but she wasn’t afraid to get her hands a little dirty milking the cows or cleaning chickens while Loring was in the field.

Donna Jean was a great gardener and cook. When the children were little she would have a fresh pan of cinnamon rolls come out of the oven as soon as the children arrived home off the school bus. Her family meant everything to her. She loved the holidays and spending time with her family. Donna Jean and Loring would take the children dancing at the Acova Dance Hall and she didn’t miss her Polka shows. Donna also worked for fifteen years at the Heritage in Avoca. In 1997, they moved to their current home on the south edge of Avoca.

Donna Jean died in her home on Sunday, November 21, 2010, having attained the age of seventy-nine years, six months, and six days. In addition to her parents, Donna was preceded in death by her husband.

She is survived by her children: Connie and her husband Terry Pieken of Waterloo, Iowa, Terry Lippold and his wife Cindy of Shelby, Iowa, Patty and her husband Craig Tripp of Avoca, Carol and her husband Rob Leaders of Neola, Iowa and Janette Lippold of Underwood, Iowa; thirteen grandchildren, five step-grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; brother Darwin Warner and his wife Arlene of Harlan, Iowa, sister Lavon Nihsen of Council Bluffs, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

The 10:30 AM Funeral Service was officiated by John Nihsen at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca on Wednesday, November 24, 2010. Interment was held in Graceland Cemetery in Avoca.
