Judy F. Hansen - Age 69

Judith Fay Hansen was born on September 28, 1943 to Raymond and Fern (Doonan) Thomsen in Atlantic, Iowa. She attended Jackson Township Country School No. 9 and graduated from Harlan High School with the Class of 1962.

After graduation, Judy helped her mother at home until she was married to Gary Hansen on November 12, 1966, at the First United Methodist Church in Harlan, Iowa. Four children were born to them: Neil, Brent, Kevin, and Jeanne.

She was a homemaker and stay-at-home mom and enjoyed raising her children. She took various jobs outside the home when her children were older and worked at local restaurants and cleaned homes and the Congregational Church in Harlan before becoming employed at Myrtue Medical Center as a housekeeper. She was a hospital employee for thirteen years and retired in April of 2004.

Judy enjoyed baking, taking care of her flower garden, being outside to go for walks or ride her bicycle, and dancing. She would always try to get to her grandchildren’s activities and watch whatever event they were participating in.

Because of her failing health, Judy became a resident of Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa, in August of 2008. It was there that she died on Thursday, February 28, 2013 having attained the age of sixty-nine years and five months. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Judy is survived by her husband of forty-six years Gary Hansen of Harlan, Iowa; children: Neil Hansen and his wife Diane of Harlan, Brent Hansen and his wife Ann of Harlan, Kevin Hansen and his friend Katie of Des Moines, Iowa, and Jeanne and her husband Kurt Koenig of Dunlap, Iowa; two grandchildren: Haley and Tara; brother Dennis Thomsen and his wife Janet of Harlan and sister Beverly and her husband Tom Schmitz of Harlan; other family members and friends.

Pastor Darwin Moore officiated the 11:00 AM funeral service on Monday, March 4, 2013 at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa. Serving as casket bearers were Jim Hansen, Rod Hansen, Kirk Jacobsen, Rick Jacobsen, Mark Schmitz, and Danny Schneider. Interment was held at the Harlan Cemetery.
