Ronald L. Goetzinger - Age 73

Ronald LaVern Goetzinger was born on May 10, 1938 to LaVern and Josephine (Kohles) Goetzinger in Defiance, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Defiance and attended grade school at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic School before graduating from Manilla High School with the Class of 1956.

Ron worked for several farmers in the Harlan area before starting his own business in Shelby in 1968. He could design equipment and then build it.

He bred and raised, bought and sold quarter horses and paint horses. He loved to ride his horse Ace in parades around the area. He was a hard worker and taught his children to work hard and be self-sufficient.

Ron was a hard man but a good man whose family was very important to him. He enjoyed attending family functions. He had a great sense of humor and was loyal to all of his friends.

He sold his business and retired in 2006. He continued living in Shelby until his death on Sunday, April 8, 2012 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan. He had attained the age of seventy-three years, ten months, and twenty-nine days. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard and two sisters: Cheryl Musich and Linda Warner.

Ron is survived by his children: Tammi and her husband Russ Greer of Grinnell, Iowa, Scott Goetzinger and his wife Connie also of Grinnell, Robin and her husband Gail Peterson of Shelby, Iowa, Todd Goetzinger and his wife Robin of Harlan, Iowa, and Penni Goetzinger of Kimballton, Iowa; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister Kathy and her husband Robert Burris of Indianola, Iowa; other family members and many friends.

Rev. Tom Dooley officiated the 10:30 AM funeral service on Thursday, April 12, 2012 at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa. Honorary casket bearers were Laurie Hoepner, Tyler Robinson, Larry Sieversen, Kyle Manz, Wayne Bladt, and Darin Peters. Serving as casket bearers were Waylon Goetzinger, Dave Warner, Jr., Brent Goetzinger, Nathan Collins, Colburn Warner, Dustin Collins, Terry Burris, Travis Burris, Jeff Musich, Josh Voth, and Butch Greer. Interment was held at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Defiance, Iowa.
