Mary Ann, daughter of Clarence and Ida (Miller) Foxhoven, was born October 31, 1934 on a farm south of Manilla, Iowa. She lived with her family in Astor as a young girl and then they moved to Manilla where she attended school. Mary Ann graduated with the Manilla High School Class of 1952. She worked for E. R. Longnecker and Emma’s Café as a girl and later at Farmland.

On February 26, 1954 Mary Ann was united in marriage with Ambrose M. ‘Jack’ Olberding. They made their home in Manilla and were the parents of six children. They purchased their own home in 1959. She and Jack enjoyed going to dances in the area and camping. Mary Ann was a wonderful mother and homemaker. She loved to cook and bake and take care of her family and friends. She was an accomplished seamstress and later in life made beautiful quilts. She loved celebrating holidays and had closets full of decorations.

Mary Ann and Jack were members of Sacred Heart Parish where Mary Ann was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and Choir.

Mary Ann retired from CDS in Harlan and during her retirement worked at the Manilla Manor Nursing Home. Her constant companion, her dog Buster Brown, accompanied her on many walks around town.

Mary Ann suffered a heart attack March 12, 2013 and her health continued to fail. She died Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. She was 78 years, 4 months and 17 days of age.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband and son James Olberding.

Mary Ann is survived by five children: Victoria (Ronald) Bashant of Waverly, AL; Jackie Olberding-Borges (Richard Borges) of Oceanside, CA; Mike Olberding of Manilla; Uigenia ‘Jeannie’ Hornback of Waterford, CT and Travis (Nicole) Olberding of Carroll; grandchildren: Jerami Brandenburg, Joshua (Denise) Brandenburg, Justin (Heather) Murphy, Jonathan Murphy, Jeffrey Wilson-Borges, Brittney (Matt) Wilder, Eleni Muse, Callie Muse, Zena Olberding, Ambrose Olberding, Hunter Hornback and Storm Hornback; great grandchildren Anna, Emilia and Henry Brandenburg; sisters Ethel Defenbaugh of Harlan and Hazel (Otto) Rasmussen of Manilla; other relatives and many friends.
