Gladys L. Lundquist (1933-2022)

ELDRIDGE-Gladys L. Lundquist, 88 of Eldridge, Iowa passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2022. Gladys was born November 25, 1933 in Cedar Falls, Iowa daughter of James and Ingry Assink. She graduated from Cedar Falls High School in 1951. Following graduation, she was employed at Iowa State Teachers College (UNI) in the Science Department serving as secretary to the head of the department.

Gladys married Jim Lundquist on August 21, 1954 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and in 1956 they moved to Mt. Vernon, Iowa. Following the move, she was employed at Nissen Trampoline serving as secretary to George Nissen the inventor of the trampoline. Gladys and Jim moved to Davenport, Iowa in 1959. Together they raised three daughters.

Always known for her smile, she was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, had a wide social circle of friends and was always up for a game or a challenge. Hobbies included travel, sewing, golf and card clubs.

Having enjoyed 66 years of marriage, she was a devoted wife and mother. She loved her family and her friends and played a loving and influential role in the lives of her children and grandchildren along with teaching: "there is a place for everything and everything in its place."

Those left to cherish her memory include daughters, Linda (Robert "Pete") Auliff, Walcott, Iowa and Lisa (Matthew) Colesworthy, Sun Valley, Idaho; son-in-law Dr. Robert Pollet, Newtown, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Danielle Pollet, West Chester, Pennsylvania, Andrew (Nicole) Petersen, Bondurant, Iowa and Kelly (Kyle) Fenimore, Pleasant Hill, Iowa; great grandchildren Brenna and Silas Petersen and soon expected baby Fenimore; many step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; sister, Lola (Dr. Robert) Galiher, Manchester, Iowa; sister-in-law Evelyn Cherry (Frank Herring), Strawberry Plains, Tennessee and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other loving family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Lori Pollet and husband, James Lundquist.

The family wishes to express special thanks to the kind and caring staffs and communities of Grand Haven Retirement Center, Heartland Hospice and Ridgecrest Village.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, June 25, 2022 at 10:00am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Davenport, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church or a charity of personal choice.
