James D. Scieszinski

James D. Scieszinski, 62, of Davenport died Oct. 5 of an apparent heart attack at his home.

Survivors include his wife Ann; three children, Danny, Dick and Debbie; one brother, Jack of Albia; and two sisters, Donna Benson of Davenport and Betty Conway of Newburgh, Ind.

The funeral was 1 p.m. Monday at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Davenport. Burial was in Davenport.

Born on the family farm near Melrose, IA on May 18, 1917, eldest child of Daniel James (1892 - 1974) and Mary Agnes (Comer) Scieszinski (1895 -1983).

Originally named Daniel James after his father, early in life his name was changed to James Daniel.

Jim relocated with his family to Davenport, IA in 1942 and served as a Private in the US Army from April 3, 1943 to January 2, 1946, including Foreign Service from December 23, 1943 to December 26, 1945. A member of the 110th AAA Battalion, Jim landed at Normandy on Dog-Green Omaha Beach on D+1 and fought in the Battle of the Bulge.

On October 22, 1949 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Davenport, IA, Jim married Anne Josephine Sulentic (1916 – 2007), daughter of Milan (1886 - 1941) and Ika (Sulentic) Sulentic (1890 - 1973).

Jim and Anne had five children, three boys and two girls. Twins, Thomas and Julie Anne preceded Jim in death in June, 1954.

Jim worked for John Deere Plow and Planter Works in the Quad Cities for thirty-six years and passed away nine months after retiring.

Jim will be remembered for his ability to build or fix almost anything and his love of music.

Two weeks before Jim and Anne's 30th Wedding Anniversary Jim suffered a heart attack and passed away on October 5, 1979 at home in Davenport, IA at the age of sixty-two.
