The Davenport Daily Republican; Wednesday, January 1, 1896; p. 6, col. 2:

At four o’clock yesterday morning at the residence of Henry Hamburger in the Franklin block occurred the death of Abraham Hamburger. The cause of death was pneumonia, the deceased having been a sufferer from lung trouble all winter.

Mr. Hamburger was born in Germany in 1809. He came to this country comparatively early in life locating in New York city where he engaged in the real estate business. He came to this city eleven years ago to make his home with his daughter, Mrs. A. Moritz, with whom he resided until her departure for Europe last April. Mrs. Moritz with her two young children is at present on Frankfort-on-the-Main, and the absence of his only child made his death exceptionally sad. His three grandsons, Harry, Sidney and Emanuel Moritz, have been untiring in their devotion since he was first taken ill. In addition to one daughter and five grandsons, the deceased is mourned by three brothers, one of whom is located in New York, one in Germany and another in Virginia, and by a sister who resides in New York.

Mr. Hamburger had made many warm friends during his residency here, who will be deeply grieved to learn of his death. He was one of the most prominent members of Temple Emanuel, where he will be sadly missed.

The deceased was taken to the residence of Solomon Moritz, on Twelfth and Brady streets. The funeral will be held from here Thursday, with interment in the Jewish cemetery.
