The Davenport Weekly Leader; Friday, January 11, 1901; p. 2, col. 6 & 7:

Wednesday afternoon at 5:30 o’clock at the family residence 921 Grand avenue, occurred the death of Mary De Saix Hagarty, wife of P. J. Hagarity [sic]. Death was due to complications incident to declining years.

Mrs. Hagarty has made her home in this city for the past 31 years and during that time has endeared herself to all with whom she came in contact. She was a woman of gentle ways, kind and forbearing towards all, and noble and generous character.

She was born in County Wicklow, Ireland, Jan. 6, 1821 and was therefore 80 years and 3 days old at the time of her demise. She came to America in 1858, fifty three years ago, landing in New York, where she continued to reside for about five years. In 1852 she was united in marriage in that city to P. J. Hagarty, their married life covering a period of forty eight and one half years. Later they removed to Chicago, Ill., and from there to Ottawa, Ill., and later to St. Louis, Mo., and in 1861 went to Clarksville, Butler county this state, where Mr. Hagarty and his brothers, Thomas, Lawrence and James, purchased farms. They continued to reside there until 1870 when they came here to Davenport, Mr. Hagarty forming a co-partnership with the late John Lillis in the grocery business, and for the past thirty-one years they have made their home here.

Besides her husband Mrs. Hagarty is survived by a son, Thomas D. Hagarty of Chicago, three daughters Mrs. A. P. McGuirk, Mrs. A. B. Gibson and Miss Elizabeth, the last two named residing at home, and two sisters and a brother, Ellen, Diana and William De Saix, in Ireland. Mr. De Saix is harbor commissioner of the port of Wicklow.

The funeral will be held tomorrow morning from the residence with services at Sacred Heart Cathedral at 9 o’clock. Interment at St. Marguerite’s cemetery.
