Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” December 26, 1972:

Herbert J. Morgan, 64, the former owner of Ideal Rest Home, died Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Luke’s Hospital in Davenport.

He was born Nov. 5, 1908, in Putnam County, Mo., to David A. and Sarah Hootzinger [sic-should be Holtsinger] Morgan. He had been a resident of Ottumwa for most of his life. He worked for the Milwaukee Railroad from 1933 to 1951. He owned and operated the Ideal Rest Home for 1954 to 1972. He was a member of the Woodman of the World Lodge.

He married Cecyle LaRue on May 4, 1932, in Unionville, Mo. She survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Keith Carter of Grundy Center, Mrs. Gordon Schauer of Sheboygan Falls, Wis., Mrs. Ben Johnson of Ottumwa and Mrs. Robert Tuck of Davenport; two sons, Herbert G. and David Morgan of Davenport; 18 grandchildren and one great-grandson; three brothers, Louis and Arthur (Bud) Morgan of Ottumwa and Harry Morgan of Joliet, Ill.; and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Caves of Ottumwa and Mrs. Katherine Suggs of Colona, Ill. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and two brothers.

The service will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Ottumwa Baptist Temple. The Rev. Albert Pringle, pastor, and the Rev. Ronald Walker of Davenport will officiate. Burial will be in the Shaul Cemetery. The casket will be taken from the Reece Funeral Home to the church at 11 a.m. and will be closed at the beginning of the service.

Pallbearers will be Randy McFarland, Ernest Loy, Donald LaRue, Brian Grooms, Paul Hoffman and Alfred Cervantis. A memorial fund has been established payable to St. Luke’s Hospital in Davenport in care of the Reece Funeral Home. The family will be at the funeral home tonight from 7 to 9 p.m.
