Michael Hirl of Long Grove Dies Suddenly

Was Ill But one Day; Resident of Scott County for 56 Years

Michael Hirl, 74, resident of Scott county for the past 56 years, died suddenly at 9:15 p.m. Wednesday at his home one and one-half miles north of Long Grove. He had been ill but one day.

Born in Donegal, Ireland, Dec. 11, 1853, he came to America with his parents and directly to Davenport in 1871. The family settled on a farm near Le Claire and has resided in the northern part of the county since.

He was married to Miss Ella Mae McIllece, April 28, 1897, in St. Anne’s church in Long Grove by the Rev. Martin McNamara and had been an active member of this church during his entire residence in the vicinity. He was a member of the M. W. A. of Long Grove.

Surviving are the widow, three daughters, Mrs. J. E. Connell, Long Grove; Mrs. T. J. Connell, DeWitt; and Ruth Hirl. at home; one son, Michael, of Davenport; one sister, Mrs. Mary Jane McKinney of McCausland, and one grandchild.

Funeral services will be held from the family home at 8:15 a.m. Saturday and at St. Anne’s church at 9 a.m. Burial will be in St. Anne’s cemetery.
