The Davenport (IA) Republican; Wednesday, June 13, 1900; p. 8 col. 4; Obituary of Neal Hirl.

The death of Neal Hirl, one of the pioneers among Scott county farmers, occurred at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Mary J. McKenney, in Lincoln township yesterday afternoon at 5 o’clock. Old age was the real cause of death, although heart trouble was undoubtedly responsible in a degree, as the deceased has been a sufferer with that disease for the past year.

Mr. Hirl was one of the old time Scott county farmers, the past 28 years of his life having been spent as a farmer in this county. At the time of his death he was retired and had taken up his residence with his daughter. He was a native of County Donegal, Ireland, and removed to this country and to this county 28 years ago.

He is survived by four children, Michael Hirl, Mrs. Mary J.McKenney, James Hirl and Patrick Hirl, all residents of Lincoln township. A brother, Dennis Hirl of Arlington, Wis., also survives.

The funeral will be held Thursday morning at 10 o’clock from the residence of his daughter, with services later at St. Anne’s church, and interment in the St. Anne’s cemetery, near Long Grove.
