Koechert

Yesterday morning the landlady of the Germania house found Otto Koechert, a well known character of Davenport, dead in his room in the hotel. On Tuesday night he came into the place in a drunken condition and went to his room. He was stricken with apoplexy and fell across the bed, where he was found twelve hours later.

Otto Koechert has lived in Davenport for about twenty years. He was at one time a clerk in Petersen's store and was in a fair way to advancement but his love for drink got the better of him and he kept going down lower and lower. He has wealthy relatives in Germany who kept him supplied with money which he has spent in drink. When he first came to this country he could speak English, French and German fluently and was a very highly educated young man. He was good natured and had many friends.

It is not known that he had any relatives in this country.
