After an illness of about two months' duration, August Goenwald [sic], 75 years old, a pioneer of the county, died Friday night at a local hospital. He resided at 1314 Gaines street.

Deceased was born Jan. 30, 1838 in Eutin, Holstein, Germany. He came to Scott county from Germany via New York city in the year 1854, and 10 years later was married here to Miss Margaretha Lage, who died in the year 1899. The couple conducted a farm in Lincoln township for a number of years and in 1895 retired and came to Davenport.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Emma Kloppenburg, Mrs. Laura LeBuhn and Mrs. Meta Meyer of this city, and one son, Julius Groenwald, who also resides here.

Funeral services were held at 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon from the family home, with interment in Pine Hill cemetery.
