Mrs. John Mies, of Davenport, went away from home, leaving her 2-year old son alone in the house and playing with some scraps of paper near the stove. When she came into the house after a brief absence she found the child screaming in agony, its clothing burned off and in a dying condition. It lived but two hours. In its play it set the papers afire at the stove.
