OBITUARY.

Stevenson.

On the 82nd anniversary of his birth, death released Dr. J.E. Stevenson from the long and hopeless illness with which he had been suffering. The end came yesterday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at his home, the residence of John S. Streeper, 925 Twenty-second street. Rock Island. Though for several years he has lived in Rock Island, the news of his death strikes the heaviest blow to Davenport, for it was in this city that he long resided and conducted business, and here his philanthropic deeds, through unchronicled, timr and again relieved suffering and want just in the nick of time.

Dr. Stevenson was born 82 years ago yesterday near the city of Baltimore. When a young man he came West and for about 45 years was a resident of Davenport. He was a member of the drug firm of Stevenson & Carnahan, their place of business at first being located in the Newcomb block on Second street near Brady. Later the firm moved to Brady and Fourth streets, and afterwards became Stevenson & Streeper. About eight years ago the business was sold to Frank Nadler, and Dr. Stevenson moved to Rock Island and, weher he has since lived.

Dr. Stevenson's only public office held in this city was that of alderman. He represented the Fourth ward. He was a director of the First National bank for several years was vice-president of the institution. He was a member of the First Methodist church during his long residence in Davenport, and served on the board of trustees. Only one relative survives--his aged widow.

The announcement of the funeral will be made later. The interment will be made at Oakdale cemetery in this city.

The Stevenson Funeral.

The funeral of Dr. J.E. Stevenson, the Davenporter who passed away in Rock Island, will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the residence of John S. Streeper, 925 Twenty-second street, Rock Island. A brief service will be held at the home of the cortege will come to this side of the river for interment at Oakdale cemetery. The pallbearers will be chosen from Davenport Lodge, A.F. & A.M., of which Dr. Stevenson was a member.

The doctor is survived by a brother and a sister, Benjamin Stevenson of Coschocton, O., and Mrs. Lydia Raymer of the same city. Neither will be able to attend the funarl on the account of their advance age, but a niec, Miss Lydia Raymer, is expected to be here.
