MRS. M. M. HUOT, PIONEER RESIDENT OF CITY, SUMMONED
Mrs. Margaret Matilda Huot, godchild of Antoine LeClaire, founder of Davenport, did at the family home, 422 East Ninth street, at (time illegible) p. m. yesterday after a three weeks’ illness.
Mr.s Huot was born in Davenport when, as a tiny settlement in the wilderness, it first began taking on its sembalance of a village. Nearly 85 years ago, Antoine LeClaire and Mrs. LeClaire acted in the capacity of god-father and god-mother at her christening.
The ceremony itself was performed in the old St. Anthony’s church with Bishop Loras, due to the absence of the pastor, Father Pelamorgas, Officiating.
She was born here 85 years ago, on Sept. 12, 1843. At that time her parents occupied the colonial home on the northwest corner of Sixth street and Pershing avenue. For many years the house was known as the Dr. Barrow’s home, as he was the occupant who succeeded the Huot family. She was married to Francis M. Huot at Davenport in 1862. Mr. Huot preceded her in death by 10 years. Despite her advanced years, she had been active in the affairs of the Old Settlers’ association and the Altar and Rosary society at Sacred Heart Cathedral.
Surviving of her twelve children are two sons, Joseph A. and George F. of Davenport; five daughters the Misses Mary L., Loretta, Emily and Elena of Davenport and Mrs. E.J. Stackhouse of Minneapolis, and seven grandchildren.
The funeral will be from the late home at 8:30 a. m. Thursday and at Sacred Heart cathedral at 9 a. m. Burial will be in St. Marguerite’s cemetery.

SIMPLE RITES MARK FUNERAL OF MRS. HUOT
Aged Pioneer Resident of City Laid to Rest in St. Marguerite’s
The funeral of Mrs. Margaret M. Huot, a resident of Davenport for 85 years, was held this morning from the family home, 422 East Ninth street, to Sacred Heart cathedral where services were held at 9 o’clock. The Very Rev. F. J. Leonard celebrated a requiem high mass and pronounced the burial absolution. The Rev. Richard Egan Officiated at the committal services at St. Marguerite’s cemetery.
As the procession entered the church Mrs. H. T. Ruff sang “Tears of Christ”. T. D. MacDonald of Chicago sang Gounod’s “Ave Maria” at the offertory and at the conclusion of the services M. J. Hickey sang “Nearer My God to Thee”.
The pallbearers were Frank Renicke, J. P. Arnould, Dan Marinan, V. Hesse, James O’connor and D. J. Ryan.
Reiends and relatives from out of the city who attended the funeral were Mrs. Charles Ward, Mrs. Edward Keating, Mrs. Joseph Gillooley, Miss Anna Mullius, Miss Genie Lynch, and Mr. and Mrs. George B. Motie, all of Chicago; Mrs. Fred Switzer, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Fayle, and Miss Emily Fayle of Muscatine; Mrs. E. J. Stackhouse, Miss Adelina Stackhouse and Ray Stackhouse of Minneapolis, Minn.
[CONTRIBUTOR’S NOTE: Margaret Huot at the time of her death was the last living godchild of the LeClaires. She was the daughter of Pat Maguire 1797-1861 and sister of Mary Maguire Motie 1829-1896.]
