Obituary
Emeis.
For several days it has been known that Dr. Emeis, one of the well known citizens of Scott county was very ill and could not possibly recover, although at times it was thought that he was improving, but yesterday morning the worst fears of his family were realized, and at 10 o'clock he passed peacefully away.
Dr. August Julius Emeis came to this county in 1845 from Schlewig Holstein where he was born more than 75 years ago. When he came to this country he first settled in Edward's count, Ill.; but in 1853 he came to Iowa, settling in Winfield township.
While living in Illinois, his wife died and he went back to German where he remained for some time and where he remarried. It was on his return to this country that he settled in this country. In 1878 he moved to Davenport which has been his home ever since. His second wife died several years ago and he married for the third time. This wife and nine children are left to mourn his death--A.F. Emeis, Salt Lake City; E.T.W. Emeis, Kansas City; Julius C.H. and C.M. Emeis of this city; Mrs. Hugh Bryson, Mrs. Henry Cook, Mrs. Henry Stutt and Mrs. John Zoeckler, all of Scott county.
Dr. Emeis had a large circle of friends who will sincerely mourn his death and who will extend their heart-felt sympathy to the bereaved family.
The funeral will take place Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock from his late residence 1018 Harrison Street.
