Fritz Stroh, who has been a resident of Davenport since 1851, died last night at about 10 o'clock at his home, 804 West Seventh street, Davenport. He had been ailing all summer, and his death was not unexpected, one son and a daughter besides his wife being present at the time of his death. His death was caused by old age. At the time of his death, he was 78 years, 7 months and 11 days old.
He was born in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, on March 11, 1826. He served during the war between Denmark and Schleswig-Holstein in 1848-1850, and is a member of the order of veterans of that war in this city. In 1851 he came to America, setttling immediately in Davenport. He engaged in the butcher business and continued in that business until three years ago when failing health compelled him to retire.
In January, 1854, he was married to Miss Margaret Gold in Davenport. Fourteen children were born to them, eight of whom survive. The survivors are his wife, Margaret; four daughters, Mary Stroh of Davenport, Mrs. Anna Myrus of Helena, Mont., Lena Stroh of Davenport and Gretchen Stroh of Davenport and four sons, Louis of Butte, Mont., Otto of Butte, Mont., Adolph of Butte, Mont., and Fritz of Burke, Idaho. Besides the immediate family, one brother, Henry, of Schleswig-Holstein; a half brother, Louis Thoeming of Anamosa, and two sisters, Mrs. Chas. Westphal and Mrs. Julius Eckhardt of Davenport, also survive.
The funeral will be held on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home, with interment of Fairmount. The other arrangements for the funeral have not been completed.
