Hans Asmus Goetsch was born October 14, 1825 at Probstei, Schleiswig-Holstein, Germany to Asmus Goetsch and Esther Untiedt.

He married Antje Anna Arp on April 10, 1852 at Wisch, Schonberg, Germany. From marriage record found: Hans Goetsch from Wisch, legitimate son of the late cottageman Asmus Goetsch and his wife Esther née Untied (Untiedt) (Hans' parents).

The couple had 7 sons:
Heinrich (Henry) Asmus Goetsch (1852 - 1932),
Jochim Nicolaus Goetsch (1857 - 1909),
Jacob Julius Goetsch (1862/1863 - 1940),
Wilhelm Goetsch (1865 /1868- 1938),
Ernst (Earnest) Goetsch (1868/1869 - 1956),
Hermann Goetsch (1871 - 1953),
John Goetsch (1871-1938),

Hans, his wife and their 2 oldest sons emigrated to Davenport, Scott, Iowa about 1861. Hans was naturalized May 1, 1877 at Davenport, Iowa.

Family found in the 1880 -1895 censuses living at Davenport, Scott, IA: 1880: Hans Gottsch 54, Anna Gottsch 49, Jachim Gottsch 23, Ernst Gottsch 11, Hannor Gottsch 9, Herman Gottsch 9. 1895: Hans Goetsch at 70.

A Golden Wedding for Hans and Anna Goetsch, 1901:
Mr. and Mrs. Hans Goetsch last evening celebrated their golden wedding, a company of their relatives gathering at their home to make the celebration of the occasion a happy one. The family circle was made complete by daughters -in-law and grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Goetsch were born and married in Probstei, Germany and Mr. Goetsch is one of the veterans of the Schleswig -Holstein struggle of 1848-1850 for independence. They came to Davenport in 1861, and seem to have many years of life before them, Mr. Goetsch being but 74 and his wife 72 and both hale and hearty. Their seven sons are Officer Henry Goetsch, Wilhelm and Ernst, the cigar manufacturers, Jochim, Julius, John, and Hermann.

Davenport Republican, Friday, April 5, 1901:
Last night at their home, 1008 West Ninth street, Mr. and Mrs. Hans Goetsch celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, surrounded by the members of their own family, who made a goodly company. Many fine presents were received by the venerable couple. Mr. Goetsch was born in Probstei, Germany, and was wedded to Miss Anna Arp in 1851, who was also born in Probstei. Mr. Goetsch served in the rebellion against the Danes in 1848-1850 and came to American in 1861, direct to this city. Mr. and Mrs. Goetsch have had a good share of prosperity and have enjoyed excellent health, but they are especially proud of having reared the following seven sons, each a well known resident of this city, and all present at their parents' home last evening: Henry Goetsch, police officer; James Goetsch, clerk for Gus. Jansen; Julius Goetsch, with W. & D. mill.; William and Ernst Goetsch, of Goetsch Bros..cigar factory; John Goetsch, conductor on loop line street cars; Herman Goetsch, cigar maker.

Hans Asmus Goetsch died November 10, 1902 at Davenport, Scott, Iowa and is buried at the Fairmount Cemetery, Davenport, Scott, Iowa.

Obituary from The Davenport Democrat, November 10, 1902:
At his home, 1008 West Ninth Street, at 9 o'clock this morning after a brief illness due to the natural decadence of old age, occurred the death of Hans Goettsch, father of Patrol Driver, Henry Goettsch, in the 77th year and 27th day of his age. The deceased was born in Probstei, Germany and came here in 1861, with his wife and family. A year ago last spring the deceased celebrated his golden wedding. His wife passed away Sept. 22 of this year. Seven sons survive, viz: Henry, the patrol driver, Jochim, Julius, William, Ernst, John and Herman Goettsch, all of this city. The funeral will be held on Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the late residence with interment at Fairmount Cemetery.
