Bill Klinefelter is Dead
Well Known Man Passed Away This Morning At His Main Street Home
William Klinefelter, a former will known river man, an old soldier, ex-proprietor of the hotel now called the Alemannia at Front and Main streets, bartender for four or five years at the Kimball house, and for a like period at the St. James, a jolly good fellow, known to thousands in the city, died at 1 o’clock this morning at his home on Main street, just above the patrol station.
He was universally known as “Bill” and was distinguished for his wit and for the fact that up to a few years ago he weighed in the neighborhood of 400 pounds. For a long time he was steward on Mississippi packets, and as such became acquainted with people in all the upper river towns, his great bulk making him a marked man wherever he happened to be.
Death came after an illness of several years. A wife but no children survive.
