PV Man Crushed In Industrial Mishap

Harry T. Watkins, 65, of Pleasant Valley, was killed Tuesday afternoon when an industrial press at Sivyyer Steel Casting Co., Davenport, malfunctioned and struck him, causing crushing injuries.

Watkins was pronounced dead at the scene by Dr. R. M. Perkins, Scott County medical examiner. Perkins said death was attributed to crushing chest injuries.

Mr. Watkins had been employed at Sivyyer Steel Casting Co. for the past 20 years and had planned to retire in October.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday in the Trinity Lutheran Church, Pleasant Valley. Burial will be in Pleasant Valley Cemetery.

Visitation begins at 2 p.m. Thursday at the McGinnis Funeral Home, Bettendorf.

He was born in Pleasant Valley. He married Alice J. Hesse there in 1930.

Mr. Watkins had served as head usher at Trinity Lutheran Church for many years.

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Mark (Sharon) Rohner, Iowa City, Iowa; one granddaughter; sisters, Mrs. Herbert Steiger, and Mrs. George Getty, both of Bettendorf; Mrs. Arnold Wiebers and Mrs. Albert Wiebers, both of Camanche, Iowa, and Mrs. Arvilla McFate, LeClaire, and brother Russell, Davenport; Thomas, LeClaire, and Merle, Jonesville, Mich.
