Deceased Name: Mildred Watkins-Dies

LAKE WALES, Fla. - Mildred Watkins-Dies, 96, died in Lake Wales, Fla. May 6, 2007. She was born to Louisa and Charles Watkins in Pleasant Valley, Iowa, on September 19, 1910, and married Edward A. Dies on January 1, 1936. After Ed's retirement from International Harvester in 1972, they spent the rest of their days in Florida, mainly in the retirement community of FedHaven, Fla. There they enjoyed a very active and enjoyable life immersed in senior activities with their many friends and acquaintances.

Mildred's hobbies included sewing, gardening, painting and collecting antiques, but her favorite pastime and endeavor in life was being a devoted and loving companion and partner to her "Eddie", who passed away at the age of 89 on July 12, 2001. She was a homemaker in Pleasant Valley, and later in Bettendorf, and belonged to several social clubs and organizations including Farm Bureau, the Watkins Birthday Club, Eastern Star, Pioneers of America, and a past member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Pleasant Valley.

Mildred is survived by her three children, Darrell (Ellen), Normal, Ill.; Duane (Gudrun), Winter Haven, Fla.; Susan (Phil), Lake Wales, Fla.; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial and graveside service will be held at the Pleasant Valley Cemetery Sunday, August 5, 2007, at 3 p.m., where her ashes will be laid to rest. Memorials may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church of Pleasant Valley, Iowa.
