Mr. Munchrath spent many years employed in the city hall. His kindness and thrift in public ofice made him innumerable warm friends who will grieve to hear of his passing. For nine years he served as Deputy Assessor under the late Ignatz Hill, later becoming the city sidewalk inspector, which capacity he filled for nine years also.
The deceased was born in Cologne, Germany, April 2, 1852. When 4 years of age he came to America, up the Mississippi river from New Orleans to St. Louis, Mo., and coming to Iowa in 1885. The couple celebrated their golden wedding anniversary two years ago.
Mr. Munchrath was a splendid American citizen. He was an earnest student of American history, being very well versed on historical matters of America, and a delightful talker and entertainer on these subjects. His service to the people of Davenport during his public life only partially reflects his noble character as a husband and father.
Before entering public service Mr. Munchrath was a retail grocer in this city.
He was a member of the Loras Council, Knights of Columbus, the Loras assembly of the Fourth degree, K. of C., and the R. C. M. P. S.

Daniel, and Mrs. William Schloemer, all of Davenport; a daughter-in-law, Mrs. C. F. Munchrath, Davenport; two cousins whom the deceased raised from childhood, J. L. Lakers and William Lakers; three brothers, Fred and John, Earling, Ia., and Ben, Alberta, Canada; and 19 grandchildren. An only son, Christian F. preceded him in death in 1912.
