Davenport Daily Leader, 29 Aug, 1901
At 9:30 o’clock last night, at his home, 418 Division St., occurred the death of James McMahon at the age of 72 years. He died of a malignant growth in the abdomen. Deceased was a native of County Clare, Ireland, and had resided in this city for the past 40 years, where he was well known and popular with a large circle of acquaintances. Upon arriving in America he did not tarry long on the eastern coast, but became one of Davenport’s earliest settlers. He was an active, dauntless man, a “hustler” who tinctured every situation with flashes of keen wit and an abundance of good humor. For a long time he was foreman for a leading construction company and held the respect of his employers and fellow workmen alike.
Ten children survive him, five sons and the same number of daughters, the former being James, Bernard, John, Martin, and David, and the latter, Mrs. George Murphy of Wichita, Kan., Mrs. John Britt of this city, and Katie, Anne and Ella, at home.
