Two Sudden Deaths
Joseph Freund and Jacob Hasch

One Believed to be Heart Failure and the Cause of Mr. Hasch's Death not Known -- Mr. Freund is a Young Man.

(From Monday's Daily Leader.)

Joseph Freund, a well known resident of this city, dropped dead this afternoon shortly after 1 o'clock. He was taken ill without a moment's warning and before he could reach his bed fell to the floor and expired. The cause of death is supposed to be heart failure.

Mrs. Freund was not at home at the time. She had gone into the country. Mr. Freund was out in the yard and was talking to Albert Overdeick, a neighbor. Suddenly he complained that he did not feel well and started for the house. Mr. Overdeick noticed that he looked distressed and went with him. He had entered the house and was walking ahead when he suddenly fell upon his face and immediately expired.

Mr. Overdeick immediately sent word to Dr. J. P. Crawford but when he arrived life was entirely extinct. Coroner Fred Lambach was immediately notified and went over to view the remains shortly after 3 o'clock. It is not known whether an autopsy will be held or not.

Mr. Freund was a young man of about thirty years of age, and was highly respected by all who knew him. His residence was on the west side of Grand Avenue north of South avenue.

Was Stricken by Apopplexy

Joseph Freund, a Young Retired Farmer, Fell While Entering His Residence.

A sensation of yesterday was the sudden death of Joseph Freund. He was taken ill at his home on Grand avenue, near South street, at 1 o'clock yesterday afternoon and before he could reach the bed he had passed away. His wife was out in the country at the time. He had been out in the yard talking with a neighbor named Albert Overdeick when he commenced to feel the attack coming on. Seeing that he looked ill Mr. Overdeick went with him to the house and later summoned Dr. Crawford, who arrived soon, but not before the sick man had passed away. He had fallen over almost as soon as he arrived inside the house. Appoplexy was decided to be the cause of death by Dr. Crawford and by the coroner, who arrived soon afterward in response to a summons.
The deceased was 34 years of age and was born in Davenport township. He formerly resided on a farm on that Middle road. He leaves a wife, Lena, to whom he was married last May, two sisters, Mrs. Phillip Rogge of the city and Mrs. Mathes Braunscher (sic) of Roselle, Carroll county, Ia., and five brothers, Albert, John, Edward, Ignatz and George.

The funeral service will be held from the late residence Wednesday afternoon, with services at St. Joseph's church at 9 o'clock and interment at Holy Family cemetery.
