John Freund, Well Known in County, Dead

Had Farmed for Many Years a Mile and a Half North of Bettendorf.

John Adam Freund, for many years a well known Scott county farmer, died at 11:21 o'clock Friday night at his home, 815 West State street, Bettendorf. He had been ailing for a year.

Deceased was a well known Scott county farmer. For many years he farmed a mile and a half north of Bettendorf and retired two years ago.

He was born in Scott county, June 7, 1862, and was 60 years old. On March, 1866 he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Rogge, the ceremony being performed by the late Monsignor A. Niermann. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes church and of Loras Council, Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are the wife, Anna, three daughters, Eleanor, Julia and Mrs. Arthur Klindt and four sons, Harry, Peter, Godfred and Lawrence.

There are four brothers, George, Ignatz, Albert and Edward and one sister, Mrs. Francis Bancher (sic) of Carroll, Iowa. The brothers all reside in Scott county.

The body was taken to the Fred N. Ruhl funeral home and this morning will be returned to the family home from where the funeral will be held at 8:30 o'clock Tuesday morning, with services at 9 o'clock at Our Lady of Lourdes church and interment in Holy Family cemetery.

The Freund Funeral

The funeral of John Adam Freund was held this morning at 8:30 o'clock from the family home, 814 West Grant street, Bettendorf, with services at 9 o'clock at Our Lady of Lourdes church.

Solemn requiem high mass was observed. Rev. Stephen Davis was celebrant; Rev. A. Schoeningh deacon; Rev. J. W. Bulger, sub-deacon. Rev. Davis pronounced the burial absolution and gave the sermon. Rev. Schoeningh officiated at the grave in Holy Family cemetery, assisted by Rev. Davis.

At the offertory Mrs. Edward O'Donnell sang Ave Maria. At the conclusion of the mass she rendered "Tears of Christ" and at the conclusion of the services Mrs. O'Donnell and Lester Kinkel sang "Nearer My God to Thee."

The funeral was one of the largest held in Scott county for some time. Honorary pallbearers were John Fleishmann, Anthony Fleishmann, Pius Mohr, Peter Gilroy, John Rocke and Andrew Klauer.

Six nephews served as active pallbearers. They were Leo Freund, Eldon Freund, Arthur Rogge, Leonardo Rogge and Philip Rogge.

Leaves Estate in Trust for Widow's Benefit

John A. Freund, who died May 5, left his estate in trust to his widow, Anna D. Fruend, providing she does not remarry, according to the terms of the will filed in district court for probate. In the event of Mrs. Freund's remarriage the trust is dissolved and the property ordered divided, one-third to the widow and the remainder to the seven children.

Following Mrs. Freund's death the estate will be divided among the following children: Eleanor, Harry L., Peter, Fred G., Lorenz W., and Julia Freund and Rosie Klein.

Mrs. Freund and her daughter, Eleanor Freund, are named trustees of the trust fund and also executrixes and exempted from furnishing bonds. Hearing on admitting the will to probate is set for June 7.

Thuenen and Theunen are the probating attorneys.
