John Freund Life Resident, Answers Call
Succumbs Early Today at Home After Brief Illness.

John B. Freund, 66, a life resident of Davenport, passed away at 3:20 a.m. today at his home R.R. No. 1, Middle road. He had been ailing for the last two years, but death came after a serious illness of two weeks' duration.

Mr. Freund was born in Davenport Sept. 10, 1862. He lived his entire life in the homestead on Middle road. He was married to Miss Elizabeth Scherschel at Rapid City, Ill.

Surviving are the widow; six children, Vincent, Mary, Loretta and Florence, at home; Mrs. Joseph Siefers and Phillip Freund, Davenport; two sisters, Mrs. Catherine Schebler, Davenport, and Mrs. Carrie Hesnard, Sioux Falls, S.D.; one brother, Edward Wachter, Davenport; and six grandchildren.

The body was removed to the Halligan funeral home and will be returned to the late home this evening, from where the funeral will be held at 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, with services at Our Lady of Lourdes church in Bettendorf at 9:30. Burial will be made in Holy Family cemetery. The Rev. T.P. Coleman will recite the Rosary at the home at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Freund Funeral.

The funeral of John B. Freund, life resident of Davenport, which was held today at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes church, was largely attended by the many friends and relatives who filled the church to capacity. Many beautiful floral pieces were in evidence.
The Rev. T.P. Coleman celebrated a requiem high mass, pronounced the absolution, preached the funeral sermon, and officiated at the committal services in Holy Family cemetery.

Pallbearers were Lawrence, Eldon, and Paul Freund, William Mohr, James Scherschel, and John Marz.

The late J. B. Freund, who died Oct. 22 last, left an estate valued at $29,598.43, of which $20,000 is invested in real estate, according to a preliminary tax inheritance report filed in the clerk's office.
