Life Resident and Prominent Citizen is Dead

Joseph A. Schebler, life resident and prominent hardware man of Davenport, died at his home, 1448 West Eighth street at 2:30 a.m. Saturday. Mr. Schebler had been in ill health for the last two months.

Mr. Schebler was born in Davenport, Sept. 22, 1886, and for more than 45 years had been engaged in the business of a tinner and stove dealer. For the last 33 years he has been in business for himself, first at 1110 West Third street and for the last 10 years at 1128 West Third street.

Mr. Schebler was a devout Catholic and was a life member of St. Joseph's church. He took an active part in the church function and was a member of St. Joseph's Benevolent and Holy Name societies and the Western Catholic Union. Mr. Schebler was a man of strong character and leaves many friends who will grieve to hear of his death.

Surviving are one son, Edward A. Schebler; one daughter, Mrs. Henry Ehlers; one sister, Mrs. Aloysious Hiegel; and four brothers, Frank, Theodore, Albert, and Louis Schebler, all of Davenport. His wife, Mrs. Adelheid Schebler, preceded him in death Aug. 24, 1924.

The body was removed to the Fred N. Ruhl funeral home and will be returned to the late home this morning. The funeral will be held from the home at 8:30 a.m. Monday with services at St. Joseph's church at 9 o'clock. Interment will be in Holy Family cemetery.

The Rev. George Giglinger will recite the rosary at the home at 2:30 p.m. today.

The Schebler Funeral

The funeral of Jseph A. Schebler was held from the late home, 1448 West Eighth street, at 8:30 a.m. today with services at St. Joseph's church at 9 o'clock. The Rev. George Giglinger celebrated a requiem high mass, pronounced the burial absolution, preached the funeral sermon and also officiated at the committal services in Holy Family cemetery.

The pall bearers were Aloysius Hiegel, Martin Gadient, John J. Hinrichs, Joseph Thelken, John Riedmann, and Nicholas Mohr.
