Mrs. Gadient, Resident Here 55 Years, Dead

Passed Away at Age of 80 Years After a Long and Useful Life.

Mrs. Mary Anna Gadient, well and favorably known in Davenport and for 55 years a resident of this city, died Tuesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Henry Ruymann, 1719 Sturdevant street. Death terminated a two months' illness. She was 80 years of age.

The deceased, whose maiden name was Mary Anna Liebal, was born in Austria, June 17, 1842, and came to this country and direct to Davenport in 1867. On Aug. 8, 1871, she was united in marriage to Jacob Gadient. The ceremony was performed at St. Joseph's church by the late Monsignor A. Niermann. Mr. Gadient passed this life June 25, 1898.

During her entire residence here, Mrs. Gadient was a faithful and devoted member of St. Joseph's church and of the Christian Mothers of that church. She was as honest as the day is long, tenderhearted and kind, and always had a word of encouragement and good cheer for those about her. She was an ideal mother and home-maker.

Surviving are three daughters and four sons. They are Mrs. Luther Lyons, Rock Island; Mrs. W. E. Copp, Rock Island; Mrs. Henry Ruymann, Davenport; Leo, Edward and Martin J. Gadient of Davenport and Frank F. Gadient of Rock Island. There are 30 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. A brother, Charles Liebal, 87 years old, still resides in Davenport.

The body was taken to the Fred N. Ruhl funeral home and from there will be conveyed to the home of the son, Martin J. Gadient, apartment 4 in the Gadient apartment building, Sixth and Ash streets. From there, the funeral will be held at 9 o'clock Friday morning, with services at 9:30 o'clock at St. Joseph's church and interment in Holy Family cemetery.

Members of the Christian Mothers' club will meet at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon for prayer at the son's home, where the body reposes.

The Gadient Funeral

The funeral of Mrs. Mary Anna Gadient was held this morning from the residence of her son, Martin J. Gadient, No. 4 Gadient apartments, on Sixth and Ash streets, at 9 o'clock with services at 9:30 in St. Joseph's church.

Rev. Anthony Schoeningh was celebrant of a solemn requiem high mass. Rev. Wm. Bulger was deacon; Very Rev. Durkin of Rock Island, sub-deacon; Rev. Stephen Davis of Bettendorf, master of ceremonies. Rev. Schoeningh pronounced burial absolution assisted by the other three priests preached the funeral sermon and officiated at the grave in Holy Family cemetery.

At the offertory of the mass, the young ladies' choir sang an "Ave Maria." The Christian Mothers, of which the deceased was a member, attended the mass in a body. The church was filled to capacity by the many friends of Mrs. Gadient, and there were many floral offerings.

Pallbearers, all grandsons of the deceased, were Edwin, Edward, Walter, LeRoy and Christian Gadient and Fred Lyons.
