Wednesday afternoon at 3:25 o'clock at the family homestead 1047 West Third street occurred the death of one of Davenport's oldest and most respected citizens, George Herrmann Sr. The cause of death was general debility resulting from his advanced years. Deceased has long been a leading business man of this city and was in active business until four years ago when he retired on account of failing health.

George Herrmann Sr. was born in Bavaria, Germany, Nov. 15, 1821 where he continued to reside for 27 years. In 1848 he sailed for America coming directly to this city and landing here on July 4 of that year. He was soon engaged in the grain and commission business and continued it until the time of his retirement four years ago.

Mr. Herrmann was a man of sterling qualities. He was honest, straightforward and held the respect of all who knew him and with whom he did business. He was married after he came to America. Mrs. Herrmann's death occurring about 10 years ago.
Deceased is survived by three children, George Herrmann Jr., the well known clothing man who has been in the employ of the Why Store for a number of years past. Mrs. Mary Ceurvorst also of this city and Robert Herrmann also well known as a clothing man in the clothing department of the J. H. C. Petersen's Sons.

The funeral will be held from the family residence with services at St. Joseph's church at 9 o'clock Saturday morning. Interment at St. Mary's cemetery.
