Last Rites for Ex-Army Aviator Were Held Today
Funeral services for Lewis A. Jacobs, who died Saturday morning at Mercy hospital in Davenport, after suffering for ten weeks from a strange malady - sarcoma - were held today at 1 p.m. at the home of R. L. North, 2118 Highland avenue.
Many friends of the young man, who was well known and popular here and in the Tri-Cities, and who had been an army aviator, attended the funeral. The Rev. Leroy M. Coffman officiated.
Following the services here, the remains were taken by auto to DeWitt, the deceased’s native community. While a squadron of airplanes, in military formation, circled above the cemetery, brief services were held at the grave. Rusty Campbell, aviator from Moline, commanded.
Pallbearers were Frank Maier and Peter Parnell of Davenport, Robert Schurr of Rock Island, Frederick Homer, Fritz Hermiston, and Arthur Gostic, all of DeWitt.
Friends from out of the city who attended were Mr. & Mrs. H. King, Mr. & Mrs. Carl Heatherton, Mr. & Mrs. O. W. Bodie, and W. W. Wilson, all of Hammond, Ind.
