Mrs. G. Scott, 85, Widow of Ex-Mayor, Dies
Mrs. Rosemary Spier Scott, widow of George W. Scott, former mayor of Davenport died at her home, 2016 Harrison street at 1:35pm Sunday after a illness of one month. She had resided here for the past 11 years and was 85 years of age.
Rosemary Spier was born in Peoria, Ill March 26, 1854, and was graduated in music at St. Mary's college at South Bend, Ind in 1874. She continued her affiliations with the St. Mary's college alumnae association until her death. She taught at the college for a year and married Mr. Scott at Bismarck, N.D. on June 5, 1887, when he was commissioner of Indian affairs. She had taught at the Indian reservation near Bismarck. She also taught music in Peoria.
Mrs. Scott was organizer and first president of the Ladies of the Elks. Her husband died 12 years ago.
Surviving are three daughters, the Misses Coaina M. and Eunice M., both of Davenport, and Miss Maris Stella Scott, Denver; three sons, Walter Howell Scott and George W. Scott, Jr. both of Davenport, and Sylvester H. Scott, Clinton; two brothers, William T. Spier, Kingsville, Tex., and George L. Spier, Pasadena, Calif, and 10 grandchildren.
The body was taken to the Halligan Funeral home and returned to the family home from where funeral services will be held at 8:30am Wednesday to St. Anthony's church at 9am. Burial will be in St. Marguerite's cemetery.
The Daughters of Isabella will meet at the family residence, 2016 Harrison street, at 7 PM Tuesday to recite the rosary.
