Hon. George W. Scott, former mayor of Davenport, for 32 years a member of the Scott County Bar and for the same length of time a leader in the Democratic party of town, passed away at the family home, 2016 Harrison St, at 11:10 o'clock Monday night. He was 66 years old.
Announcement of the passing of Mr. Scott will bring sincere sorrow into many homes and his death will be mourned by thousands of friends and acquaintances.
Heart trouble and hardening of the arteries was the immediate cause of death. Last August he suffered a stroke, and since that time has been in failing health. He sustained a second stroke last Saturday, since which time his condition has been critical.
The body was taken to the Halligan Home and at noon today was returned to the family home. The funeral will be held at 8:30 o'clock Thursday morning from the late home, with services at 9 o'clock at St. Anthony's church, and interment at St. Marguerite's cemetery.
Mr. Scott was united in marriage to Rosemary Spier at Ft. Stevenson, North Dakota, on Jan. 5, 1887.
Surviving are the bereaved wife and six children as follows: Walter Howard (Howell) Scott, Davenport; Maris Stella Scott, Denver: Coaina Marie Scott, Eunice Maria Scott, Sylvester H. Scott and George Winan Scott…one sister, Mrs. John D. Hollar of Douglas, Okla, and three brothers, Ira Scott, Tyron, Okla, Wilson Scott, Newkirk, Okla, and Orris Scott, Norfork, Neb. Also surviving are eight grandchildren.
