Mrs. Ellen Wolters, wife of the late Joseph Wolters, who preceded her in death on Dec. 8, 1905, died this morning at 5 o’clock at her home, 1308 West Sixth street. She had been in good spirits Thursday and was feeling good, but was suddenly taken with a stroke at 6 o’clock Thursday evening, which caused her death this morning.

The decedent was born July 27, 1859, in Walcott, Ia., coming to Davenport with her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Michael Coffee, when 15 years old. She has been a resident of Davenport ever since, a period of 50 years, the entire time of which she was an ardent member of the St. Mary’s church. Besides eight sisters who survive, many friends and acquaintances will mourn her loss.

The eight sisters surviving are Mrs. Frank Huber, Mrs. J. C. Condon, Miss Elizabeth Coffee, Mrs. Henry Walters, Mrs. Charles Carlock, Mrs. Ed Ruhl, all of Davenport, Mrs. George Markins of Rock Island, and Mrs. Patrick Kane of New York.

The body was taken to the Fred N. Ruhl funeral home, and will be removed to the home of the deceased’s sister, Mrs. Henry Walters, 1005 West Sixth street, Saturday afternoon. Funeral services will be held at the home Monday morning at 8 o’clock to St. Mary’s church at 9 o’clock, and interment will follow in the St. Mary’s cemetery. The family requests that flowers please be omitted.

Funeral of Mrs. E. Wolters Largely Attended

Many friends attended the funeral of Mrs. Ellen Wolters which was held this morning at 8:30 o’clock from the home of her sister, Mrs. Harry Wolters, 1005 West Sixth street, with services at St. Mary’s church at 9 o’clock. There was a solemn requiem high mass celebrated. Rev. R. J. Renihan was celebrant, Rev. Owen J. McGuire was deacon, and R. J. L. Garrity was sub-deacon.

Rev. Urbin Ruhl was master of ceremonies, and Rev. Renihan pronounced the burial absolution and preached the funeral sermon. Rev. McGuire officiated at the grave, assisted by Rev. J. L. Garrity. As the funeral entered the church, John McGreevey and Mrs. Edward O’Donnell sang “Salvo Regina.” At the conclusion of the mass, John McGreevey sang “One Sweetly Solemn Thought” and at the conclusion of the services, “Nearer My God To Thee” was rendered by Mrs. O’Donnell.

The pallbearers were all nephews of the deceased. They were Hubert Wolters, Chauncey Ruhl, Frank Huber, Richard Condon, Walter Schaab and Ralph Martin.
