The (Davenport, IA) Daily Gazette; March 15, 1880:
Kinnaman
Mr. J. J. Kinnaman had been an invalid for so long that his death, as announced in another column, will not surpise his friends while it will pain them. Mr. Kinnaman was thirty-six years of age, and his disease was rheumatism of the brain. He has suffered terribly for years, and last fall was taken to Mr. Pleasant for treatment, his brain having given way under the awful strain. But everything was only in vain, and death put an end to all agony yesterday. Mr. Kinnaman came here some years ago, as manager of the old Great Western Telegraph office. After the company had undergone mastication by the Western Union, he went to Des Moines and took charge of the W. U. office at that place. In 1876, when the Atlantic & Pacific Company opened their office here, Mr. K. was appointed manager, and so continued until the “Great Absorbent” captured this company also. It was during the latter employment that rheumatism first touched him. It commenced in his limbs and gradually reached his head.
The time and place of the funeral service are announced in another column.
