The (Davenport, IA) Daily Gazette; Monday Morning, March 15, 1880:

McNeil

Mrs. O. S. McNeil died at the family residence, corner of 16th and Brady streets, at 9:45 last evening of acute pleurisy. She was taken ill last Monday morning, and continued in bed until death came.

Mrs. M. was born in Watertown, N. Y., in 1837, and was married to Mr. O. S. McNeil in Chicago, January 3d, 1865, and was 43 years of age at the time of her death. Her loss will be a severe one to the community in which she has so long moved; a woman of fine executive ability, while prominent in all religious and charitable enterprises, she devoted her best energies to the management of her home. She was passionately fond of flower and for years the gardens surrounding the home of our alderman have been the wonder and admiration of all observers. A large circle of devoted friends will sympathixe with the ____? husband.

The funeral will take place Tuesday afternoon at 9 o’clock from the family residence. Friends are invited. The interment takes place at Oakdale.

Died - McNeil - In this city, Sunday, March 14th, Martha, wife of O. S. McNeil, aged 43. Funeral Tuesday afternoon at 9 ‘clock from the family residence, corner of Brady and Sixteenth streets. Friends are invited. Interment at Oakdale.

[note: According to the 1880 mortality index, this is Martha McNeil. The 1870 census lists Oran & Martha McNeil in Davenport. Illinois online records show O. S. McNeil to M. J. Bixby 01/05/1865 Cook Co.]
