OBITUARY

GRIES, Hans, died this morning at 10:30 at Mercy hospital, aged 80 years.

Deceased was born in Germany Jan. 25, 1825, and came to Scott county forty-eight years ago, where he engaged in farming until four years ago, when he sold out his farming interests and removed to Davenport. Mr. Gries was a veteran of the Schleswig-Holstein war. Before coming to America he was married and there survive as the offspring of this union Frank and Christian Gries, of Scott county, and Mrs. Lena Kuehl, Mrs. Doris Andressen, William and Rudolph Gries of Holstein, Ida county, Iowa.

On Sept. 5, 1900, Mr. Gries was married to Mrs. Matilda Koos, of this city, who survives him.

The funeral will be held at Long Grove and will be private. Definite arrangements as to the time have not yet been made, pending word from the out-of-town relatives.
