Halpin girls

In the 1870 census of Grant City, a Hugh Halpin is listed with his family. He has two daughters I think who has been adopted. They would be his neices. Bridget and Margaret. If so, would their be records showing adoptions in Sac County? The real parents name was Michael and Susan Murphy Halpin of Wheatland or Springwater Iowa. And the two girls were sent out to live with relatives in the Sac City area in 1870 after their father had died. Any information would be apreciated. Thank You Janice
