Floyd Russell, 79

Floyd W. "Russ" Russell, 79, of 903 Hudson Ave., died Saturday, March 18, 2000, at Mercy Hospital after a sudden illness.

Services will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the George L. Gay Funeral Home and Crematorium. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 pm Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Floyd W. Russell Memorial Fund.

Mr. Russell was born Oct. 24, 1920, in Lake City, to Claude E. and Hester (Frederick) Russell. He attended Iowa State University. He joined the U.S. Army and fought in World War II. He married Leona Poggenpohl on April 3, 1953, in Iowa City. He had worked at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Iowa City for 25 years as a custodian.

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Iowa City.

Survivors include his wife; three sisters, Irene Siebrecht and her husband, Merle, of Arthur, Ina Fern McBride and her husband, Everett, of Overland Park, Kan., Wanda Kruskop and her husband, Melvin, of Carroll; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents; two brothers, Dean Russell and Earnest Russell; and two sisters, Bernice Larson and Ruth Hartley, died earlier.
