Dean E. Russell

Sac City - Dean E. Russell, 75, Knoxville, formerly of Sac City, died Feb. 20, 1994 at the Veterans Hospital in Knoxville.

Services will be 11 a.m. today at First Christian Church in Knoxville, with the Rev. Aaron McCombs officiating. Local services will be 2 p.m.Wednesday at the Farber and Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City, with the Rev. Lari Grubbs officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetary in Sac City, with flag presentation by American Legion Cantigny Post No. 195 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 590 of Sac City. Visitation is after 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Survivors include brother, Floyd Russell, Iowa City; and sisters, Irene Siebrecht, Arthur, Ina Fern McBride, Overland Park, Kan., and Wanda Kruskop, Lytton. He was preceded in death by his parents [my note: Claude Everett Russell and Hester Frederick Russell], sisters Bernice Larson and Ruth Hartley, and brother, Earnest Russell.

He was born Nov. 1, 1918, in Sac County. He graduated from Sac City High in 1937, then served four years in the military. He taught communications in Fort Riley, Kan., and served in Europe during World War II. Following his discharge, he was employed with Sac City Lumbar Company. He lived with the Donald Storm family in Knoxville with five other veterans for 30 years. He entered the Veterans Hospital in Knoxville two years ago.

He was a former member of the Christian Church in Sac City.
