Funeral services for Gladys Fanning will be held Monday, December 13th, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Nemaha with Reverend Karl Schiltz officiating. Russ Davis will sing “Amazing Grace” and “In the Garden” accompanied by Dave Cook, Pianist. Honorary pallbearers include the following: Rich Robinson, Wayne Robinson, Phil Fanning, Martin Wedeking, George Norris, Earl Flanigan, and Marty Shellenberger. Active pallbearers will include: Sean Lowe, Gretchen Lowe, Shannon Lowe, Miles Fanning, Heather Post, and Kelly Fanning. Burial will be at the Nemaha Cemetery under the direction of the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home.
Visitation in Sunday, December 12th, 4:00-8:00 pm at the Farber & Otteman Funeral Home in Sac City.
Gladys Fanning, age 84, of Storm Lake, formerly of Nemaha, Iowa, passed away on Friday December 10, 2004, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Gladys Vinola Niemeier was born July 28, 1920, in Holstein, Iowa, to Richard and Minnie (Gebers) Niemeier. She graduated from Cherokee High School in 1938 and then taught country school until 1946. She was united in marriage to Daniel Fanning on January 1, 1946, in Holstein, Iowa. Gladys sold Avon for many years, and also worked at the Nemaha Consolidated School as a secretary for 15 years.
Gladys was a dedicated U.M.W. member at Nemaha United Methodist Church, where she had been a member for over 50 years. She was a member of Eastern Star for many years and served all the stations. Gladys loved working in the garden and helping Dan with the fieldwork. Gladys and Dan square-danced for 36 years. She also loved ballroom dancing and playing cards.
Gladys is survived by her husband, Dan, of 58 years; daughter Darlene Post of Shawnee, KS; daughter Marlene and her husband Bob Lowe of Pleasant Hill, IA; son Jim and his wife Rhonda Fanning of Joplin, MO; and her five grandchildren: Heather Post, Sean and his wife Gretchen Lowe, Shannon Lowe, and Miles and Kelly Fanning. She is also survived by her sister Margaret Ray of San Lorenzo, CA; brother Louis and his wife Frances Niemeier of Holstein, IA; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Roy Niemeier and a sister Viola Johnston.
She will always be remembered as a loving wife, a caring mother and grandmother, a loyal sister, and a very dear friend.
