OBITUARY ~ JOHN MARVIN "MARV" EPPERSON
June 25, 1935 ~ December 29, 2016

John Marvin “Marv” Epperson, 81, of Aurora, Illinois, passed away December 19, 2016, at his home surrounded by family. He was born June 25, 1935, in Ellston, Iowa, the son of Charles and Viola (McMillion) Epperson. He left Iowa in 1954 to purse his desire to share his faith in God which began a lifelong relationship with Aurora (College) University. He worked as a Heating/Cooling Engineer for 43 years. Making his way “up the hill” on foot or on his trusted bicycle dubbed “The Mule.”

Even after his retirement Marv continued to share his faith with others. He was a leader of both a local Indian Guides and Cub Scout troops. He was a Helping Hands volunteer and a Golden Kiwanis member. He was also a member of 3 different genealogical societies including Kane Co. He had many interests including wood working, collecting smoking pipes and pocket knives. He was a lifelong camper. And he had a lifelong love of music that led to over 40 years of guitar playing and singing that he and wife Junia shared with many through their faith in God and as members of The Plano Golden Harvesters Kitchen Band for 11 years.

Marv is survived by his wife of 61 years Junia (Fleming); 3 sons, Robert (Ann), Richard (Ruth Ann), Raymond (Valerie), and daughter, Edith (Andrew) Crockett; 9 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, and 2 sisters.

The family will be receiving guests at the Wishard Chapel, 5 miles north of Mount Ayr, Iowa, on the corner of Highway 169 and 180th Street on Saturday, August 12, 2017, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Memorial Service to follow. Burial will be at the Ellston Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Four Square Gospel Church 224 E. Court Avenue; Winterset, Ia. 50273, for the support of Mission Field work in Papua, New Guinea, by Marv’s son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Robert and Rev. Ann Epperson.
