OBITUARY ~ PENNY COMBS, MOUNT AYR

Penny COMBS, 75, of Mount Ayr died April 28, 2008, at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 1, at Wilson-Watson and Armstrong Funeral Home, 205 W. Monroe St., Mount Ayr. The Rev. Susan THOMAS will officiate. Burial will be in Redding Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials will be established in her name at a later date. Penny COMBS, daughter of Hazel Lee (Van WINKLE) and Fred Ellsworth WHITE, was born Jan. 30, 1933, in Conway.

On July 31, 1954, she married Gaylan L. COMBS in Upland, Calif.

Penny was a cook at Mount Ayr Community School for 22 years, until her retirement in 1995.

Survivors include her husband, Gaylan COMBS of Mount Ayr; sons, Rich COMBS (friend Lori HARRIS) of Exira and Mike (wife Beth) COMBS of Marion; brothers, Al WHITE of Council Bluffs and Ivan WHITE of Lenox; sister Vicki VANOSDALL of Galesburg, Ill, and four grandchildren.

Penny was preceded in death by her parents; daughter Linda Raymie; son Mark COMBS; brothers, Danny and Richard WHITE and sister Margie MARTIN.
