Luella Kay ALLEN, daughter of Bud and Fern (GERMAN) PYLE, was born March 9, 1939 in RInggold County, Iowa. She departed her life June 6, 1996, in the University Hospital at Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the age of 57 years, two months, 28 days.
On August 6, 1960, she was united in marriage to Willis ALLEN. To this union two children were born.
Kay and Willis lived most of their married lives in the Diagonal/Tingley area engaging in farming until 1986. They built their home and moved to Tingley in August of 1986, which is where they resided together. Kay worked many productive years outside of her home as bookkeeper at the Tingley Elevator, Mount Ayr Sale Barn and Mount Ayr First State Bank.
Some things Kay enjoyed the most were camping, sewing, working with crafts, gardening, canning and spending time with her family. Whatever Kay did, was always done with utmost perfection.
After years of struggling with lung problems, Kay's hopes and dreams became reality when she underwent her lung transplant on November 9, 1995. She returned home December 20, 1995, and looked forward to resuming her usual active life. She gained strength through the following months where things were looking up for her until she was stricken with a virus that she could not overcome.
Preceding her in death were her father, Bud; mother, Fern; infant brother, Bud, Jur.; and brother, Doyle.
Surviving are husband Willis of Tingley; son, Bud of Omaha, NE; daughter, Tami (husband Scott) MILLER of Blockton; grandchildren, Shane and Justin MILLER and step-grandchildren Dawn and Boyd; sister, Dorothy (husband Gene) LAIRD of Woodward; sister-in-law, Shirley PYLE, Leon, IA; mother and father-in-law, Cecil and Lois ALLEN, Tingley, IA; two sisters-in-law, Lois Anne (husband Dave) SOBOTKA, Diagonal, IA, and Kay (husband Lloyd) DRAKE of Mount Ayr, IA; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held at the Wilson-Watson Funeral Home in Mount Ayr, Iowa, on June 10, 1996 at 10:30 a.m. Officiating were Rev. Pete BRANTNER and Rev. Eydie STEPHENS. Music was provided by Ken and Linda SMITH of Blockton, IA. Casketbearers were Max STONE, Dan FREEMAN, Harold QUICK, Larry ENGLAND, Steve TAYLOR and Gary FERGUSON. Honoary casketbearers were Janis DENNEY, Linda WILT, Joyce BROWN, Melinda ENGLAND, Doris HUTCHINSON, Karen SIMPSON, Karen SUBLETT and Vicki SICKELS. Interment in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Mount Ayr. A memorial has been established in her name.
