OBITUARY ~ C. W. HARDEN
Charles Walter HARDEN, son of T. J. and Mary Jane MITCHELL HARDEN, was born May 2, 1877, in Fayette county, PA., and departed this life October 5, 1960, in the Decatur County Hospital in Leon, at the age of 83 years, five months and three days.
When three years of age he moved with his family to Ringgold county, where he spent the rest of his life.
On September 27, 1899, he was married to Luella GLENDENNING and to this union was born one daughter, Margaret Fern. They also included in their family a niece, Ilene HUTCHINSON WILSON who came to live with them at the age of three years.
On November 27, 1897, Mr. HARDEN united with the Eureka Church and later transferred his membership to the Methodist Church in Mount Ayr.
The HARDENS lived on their farm in Rice township until they retired on November 23, 1959, and moved to Mount Ayr.
Mr. HARDEN was one of Ringgold county's highly respected citizens, honest and upright in all his dealings. He was a kind and loving husband and father, kind to all who knew him, was always busy and always ready to lend a helping hand. His frirends were numbered by his acquaintances and he was happiest when he was among friends playing his Stradivarius violin, one of his prized possessions.
Survivors, besides his widow and daughter, is a brother, Harry, who is being cared for in the HARDEN home; a a son-in-law, Lee FLETCHALL; two granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon from the Rhoades Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. John LIPPINCOTT, pastor of the Methodist Church. Music was provided by Mrs. Billie KELLEY, vocalist; Mrs. John IRVING, violinist and Margaret PENCE, organist. Casketbearers were Mark ELLIOTT, John TRIGGS, Jack HUCHINSON, Raymond UMBARGER, Ainslee TRIGGS and Glenn PRATT. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery.
