OBITUARY ~ WILLIAM "BILL" H. KELLEY
William "Bill" H. KELLEY, 60 of Brooklyn, Iowa, a former resident of Mount Ayr, Iowa, died early Wednesday, April 8, 1998, in Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines, of cancer.
William "Bill" Howard KELLEY was born September 18, 1937. His parents were William E. KELLEY and Lila TODD KELLEY.
He graduated from Mount Ayr high school with the class of 1957 of which he was the freshman and junior class president and president of the student council his senior year. He attended Northwest Missouri College at Maryville, Missouri. He attended Boys State in 1956.
Bill spent ten years on the family farm before going to work for Hicks & Ragland Engineering Co. He became the manager of the Brooklyn Mutual Telephone Co. of Brooklyn in September 1972.
Bill married Sybil DENHART on June 8, 1958. This home was blessed with two sons, Kurtis Sean and Karlin Scott. They were later divorced.
On April 12, 1997 Bill was married to Vicky S. PEREZ at the Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn.
Bill was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church of Brooklyn; Faith Lodge #179 AF & AM of Mount Ayr; Iowa Telephone Association; Independent Pioneer Association; Rual Iowa Independent Telephone Association; Foundation of Rural Service; Poweshiek Area Development; Rural Telephone Finance Corporation; PCS-Diamond Trail; National Cable Television Corporation; Iowa Cable Association; East Poweshiek Ambulance Service; Brooklyn Volunteer Fire Department; Mount Ayr JC's and Young Businessmen Association of Mount Ayr. He was active in many other civic organizations.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Vicky; two sons, Kurtis and his friend, Diane WILKINSON of Chelsea, and Karlin and his wife Shelley of Blair, Nebraska; two step-sons, Tony PEREZ and Trevor PEREZ, both of Brooklyn; two grandchildren, Kyle and Natashia KELLEY of Blair, Nebraska; and one step-grandchild, Keegan ROUDABUSH of Brooklyn.
A Masonic service was held on Friday, April 10 at the Nevehoven Funeral Home in Brooklyn with Madison TOMFELD officiating. A memorial fund has been established.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 11 in the Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn with Rev. Dr. WIlliam B. DAYLONG officiating. Music was provided by Marilyn KRIEGEL and Angie HAWKINS. Flower attendants were Neva ZIGLER, Martina KORNS, Betty PRICE and Dorothy McCONNELL.
[Interment was made at Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn, Iowa.]
