OBITUARY ~ JOHN THOMAS MOORE
September 08, 1933 ~ May 12, 2012John T. MOORE, 78, of Kent, passed away Saturday, May 12, 2012 at his home near Kent, Iowa. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 17, 2012 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Creston. Rev. Joseph PINS will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, west of Creston with the flag presentation by the Theodore J. Martens Post 1797, V.F.W. in Creston. Open visitation will be from 2 of 7 p.m. Wed. May 16th , with family receiving friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wed. and a 7 p.m. Rosary at the Powers Funeral Home junction of highway 25 and 34 in Creston.
Memorials may be made to Calvary Cemetery and Greater Regional Hospice, both of Creston and the Hospice of Southwest Iowa. Online condolences may be given at www.powersfh.com
John Thomas MOORE, son of Louis Francis Moore and Kathryn Mary (MULLIN) MOORE, was born September 8, 1933 in Maloy, Ia. He moved to the Kent area in 1950 and graduated from Cromwell High School in 1952. John farmed with his dad and brother.
He served in the United States Navy from 1955 to 1957, and after his discharge, returned to the Kent area to farm and referee sporting events.
On April 28, 1962, John married Mary Elizabeth KING in Cumming, Ia. They settled and worked on the family farm in Kent, where they farmed for many years. In 1978, John went to work for United Parcel Service, retiring in 1995. John was a member of the Holy Spirit Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and the National Rifleman Association.
Survivors include his wife Mary MOORE of Kent; a son, Brian (Brenda BLAZEK) MOORE of Creston; six daughters, Kathy (John HAWKS) WEST of Prescott, Janette (husband Mike) DAY of Camden Point, Mo., Barb (husband Mike) WASTENEY of Waukee, Ia., Susan MOORE of Des Moines, Carol (husband Dan) WAIGAND of Afton, and Marilyn (husband Jason) KINSELLA of Creston; 15 grandchildren, Lara (Chase CRILL) WEST and Taylor WEST, Trina, Jake and Chad DAY, Evan and Sydney WASTENEY, Jenna MOORE, Ansley, Hayden and Jensen WAIGAND, Mason, Jackson, Reece and Raegan KINSELLA; a brother, Roger (wife Ann) MOORE of Kent; three sisters-in-law, Virginia MOORE of Pico Rivera, Calif., Ruth WILSON of Des Moines and Helen (husband Norm) SABOL of Moline, Ill.; and four brothers-in-law, Robert (wife Janice) KING of Colfax, Paul (wife Rena) KING of Cumming, John (wife Cheryl) KING of Independence, Mo., and Tom (wife Carol) KING of Cumming, Ia.
John was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Dane WEST, three brothers, Bill, Bob and Joe MOORE; a brother-in-law, Tom WILSON, and a sister-in-law, Mary V. MOORE.
