OBITUARY ~ GLEN A. FOLAND
February 21, 1948 ~ November 29, 2007Glen A. FOLAND, 59, passed away on Wednesday, November 21, 2007 in his home surrounded by his family. A memorial service will be at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, November 29, 2007 at Allnutt Drake Chapel, 650 West Drake Road, Fort Collins.
Glen was born February 21, 1948, in Osceola, Iowa, to parents Roy Isaac FOLAND and Gertrude Louise (GRIMES) FOLAND. He was raised on a farm in Grand River, Iowa and graduated from Grand Valley High School in 1966. After high school, Glen attended Northwest Missouri State University where he met the only girl he ever loved, Janet Sue KNIGHT. Glen and Janet were united in marriage on August 18, 1968 in Gallatin, Missouri.
Glen proudly served in the Army as a staff Sergeant during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Valor and the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service.
After being honorably discharged in 1970, Glen and Janet lived in Iowa briefly before moving to Colorado and starting a family.
Jenni was born in 1971 and Randy in 1977. Glen started his working career in the concrete construction business. His hard work and strong work ethic led to many positions of respect and leadership in his industry. Glen worked in the construction rental equipment industry for over 33 years. During his career, he has been a leader and a mentor to his co-workers and made many fantastic friends.
Outside of work, Glen has been a loyal and a dedicated Husband, Father, and Pappa. His happiest memories were starting a family and spending time with them. Glen loved his family and the many pets he has had throughout his life. Glen was a quiet man, one of few words, but he touched the lives of everyone he met. He recently told Janet he was very blessed because he hadn’t realized just how many friends he had. Glen felt his two greatest accomplishments were his children, Jenni and Randy. Jenni gave him two beautiful grandchildren, Cameron and Sydney, who adored their Pappa very much. He could sit for hours and watch them play. Cameron could educate him on everything from games to why and how people use insulin in their bodies. Sydney, well Sydney was just the apple of Pappa's eye. Randy gave his dad Alaska. He and Janet visited Alaska many times since Randy moved there, vacationing and putting finishing touches on Randy’s cabin. During those times, he was one of the few who got to enjoy the northern lights and dreamed of taking Janet there to share them. One of his dreams was to retire and move to the majestic land of the wide open country and the amazing wildlife. He once said he wished he had known of the wonders of Alaska when he returned from Vietnam.
Glen will forever be missed and always remembered as a loving husband, wonderful father, and special pappa.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Janet, their two children Jenni and Randy, son-in-law Dan ROMERO, grandchildren, Cameron and Sydney, and his two brothers, Kendall and wife of Plattsburg, Missouri and Harold and family of Osceola, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Glen requested in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) or Hospice of Larimer County in care of Allnutt Funeral Service-Drake Chapel, 650 W. Drake Road, Fort Collins, Colorado 80526
