OBITUARY ~ MRS. MARY E. NOBLE

Mary Emma ELLIS, daughter of Jones and Martha ELLIS, was born June 13, 1849, in Philadelphia, Pa., and departed this life April 12 [1945] in the home of her daughter in Kellerton at the age of ninety-six years and ten months.

At the age of four years she went with her parents to Oldenburg, Ind., where they lived until 1856, moving then to Mercer county, Ill., and where she spent her girlhood years.

She was married on November 22, 1871, to Van A. NOBLE, a veteran of the Civil War. To this union were born three children, Mrs. Bessie MITCHELL, of Loveland, Colo., and Mrs. Foresta MOSBARGER and Van J. NOBLE, of Kellerton.

In 1877 she with her husband and one daughter moved to the farm in Decatur county, Iowa, where they spent five happy years. Her husband was then called in death as a result of a wound received in the Battle of Gettysburg, thus depriving her of his loving companionship and their three small children of a father's kindly care and sympathetic guidance. She maintained the home there for several years and then moved to the farm home in Lotts Creek township, where sh espent the remaining years of her life.

Her parents were of sturdy Quaker stock in which faith she grew to womanhood. In 1890 she placed her membership in the Christian church at Davis City, retaining it there util her death. Her family and her home were her greatest pleasures and she was indeed devoted to both.

She leaves to mourn her passing beside her three children, seven grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held Sunday, April 14, from the Methodist church in Kellerton, conducted by Rev. Verne WEIGEL. Interment was made in the Davis City cemetery.
